The Deputy Commissioner, East Jaiñtia Hills District today said that rumours are doing the rounds that some healthcare institutions are exaggerating Covid-19 numbers in order to receive financial assistance.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, the district administration said such allegation is false and baseless and urged the people to discourage and disengage in spreading such rumours.
“It is the responsibility of the state to ensure that the diagnosis of Covid-19 is accurately made to contain the spread of the virus and the state has one of the lowest cases per million populations across India and this has been achieved by trying to test all those who are susceptible to Covid-19,” the press release said.
Pointing out that one important category is to test those vulnerable to Covid-19 coming to hospitals the DC said more that 90 per cent of patients are treated only in government hospitals or facilities.
“As such, any allegation that hospitals and healthcare centres are receiving financial help for declaring a patient as Covid-19 positive is absolutely without any basis,” the release said.
