Domestic workers have decided to avail one-day paid leave to participate in a rally to celebrate the International Workers’ Day on June 16.
The rally will be organised from Madan Iewrynghep to Malki by the National Domestic Workers’ Movement- Meghalaya region in collaboration with the Ferrando Domestic Worker’s Alliance and All Meghalaya Domestic Workers Union.
NDWM coordinator, Wanpynhun Kharsyntiew said out of 7000 members only the leaders of different zones will be able to participate in the rally due to Covid protocols laid down by the government.
She said the workers will reiterate the pending demand to hike their wages to Rs 8000 per month and Rs 2000 per hour (for those workers who work on hourly basis).
