Doctors are fighting to save the eyesight of a 22-year-old woman who was brutally attacked by her husband.
The incident occurred on October 5. The woman, a mother of two children, was rushed to NEIGRIHMS where doctors are trying to save one of her eyes; the other has been too badly damaged.
The family reportedly lives in Sawmer and relatives filed an FIR after the attack. The husband has since been arrested.
The incident, the latest in a flurry of almost daily reports of crimes against women, was condemned by the Civil Society Women’s Organisation, whose president, Agnes Kharshiing, said that the state government should ensure that the victim receives free treatment and financial compensation for the attack.
