With inclement weather affecting many parts of Meghalaya lately, Minister of Disaster Management, Kyrmen Shylla, told Highland Post today that the government is prepared to provide immediate relief to those who suffer damage to property from such weather events.
“The immediate relief fund of Rs 50 lakh has also been handed over to every Deputy Commissioner in all the districts so they can utilize the funds for providing immediate assistance to those in need,” Shylla said.
Utilization of the funds varies from district to district depending on the nature of the calamity.
“The government may also sanction additional funds to districts that require more, while in districts where the funds remain unutilized, the money will be kept as a standby fund,” he added.
It may be mentioned that as per report from the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), nearly 6,000 people have been affected by heavy rain and floods in Meghalaya since April 1.
According to the data, 5,920 people have been affected by the bad weather and one person died as a result across some 300 villages.
