Editor,
There have been many recent upgrades and developments within our country. These developments make individuals’ lives easier. However, these developments also have a negative impact on our environment. With the increase in the number of developmental projects, there is a gradual degradation of our environment. In India, one of the most pressing environmental issues is air pollution, with Delhi being one of the most badly affected states.
There is also a rise in the Earth’s temperature due to the increase in greenhouse gases. Additionally, a large number of forest areas are being cleared for new infrastructure, leading to the destruction of flora and fauna. Many rare plants and animals are going extinct or are on the verge of extinction. Furthermore, many activities that are performed daily harm our environment. For example, the increase in the number of vehicles on the road leads to an increase in air pollution, and many lakes and rivers are being polluted.
Does “development” have to bring destruction to our environment? Our greed for an easier life is leading to our doom. We must consider the many ways in which we can save our environment. We must take certain measures to prevent developmental projects from harming our environment. Why must every single animal and plant lose their home for us humans to build ours? Why must thousands of families lose their homes and land to build new infrastructures?
The little ways and measures that ensure the safety of our environment must not be ignored. The tiny chocolate wrap that you decide to put in the bin instead of littering the road plays an important part. The seed that you bury in the Earth will soon turn into a giant tree that will provide oxygen and shade to many. Every little step matters; our every small action will either harm or heal our environment.
Writers like Ruskin Bond, Amitav Ghosh, and many others have continuously brought up the topic of the condition of our environment. These writers make readers aware of the condition of our environment. Children and youth must be introduced to these kinds of books, which will encourage them to take steps and measures for the protection of our environment. There should be more campaigns and organisations for environmental conservation.
When people are made aware of the condition of our environment today, they feel the need to start working towards saving our environment, to save our future.
