Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, will inaugurate the ‘Land Port’ at Dawki on Thursday in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and the High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh.
The Dawki Land Port is an important project of the central government as it is aimed at promoting trade and commerce with Bangladesh, a press release stated today. It is spread over a total area of 23 acres.
The corresponding land port on the Bangladesh side is Tamabil, located in Sylhet district.
The Dawki-Tamabil connection serves as a vital trade and transportation hub, facilitating the movement of goods, people and vehicles across the international border.
The development of Dawki Land Port was approved by the high level empowered committee of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs on February 4, 2016.
