The risks posed by Covid-19 are very real and the second wave of the disease currently assaulting Meghalaya has necessitated another lockdown, Social Welfare Minister Kyrmen Shylla said today.
“Last year the people followed and obeyed protocols strictly and cooperated with the government till the Covid-19 cases subsided but, gradually, everyone let their guard down and some did not even believe in the existence of the coronavirus,” he told Highland Post.
Shylla said that now we are witnessing multiple fatalities in the state every day whereas the rest of the country is experiencing huge numbers of deaths due to the virus.
“The whole world is witnessing the deaths caused by the coronavirus and no one can fake death, so I urge the citizens of the state to stay home and stay safe and follow all the protocols dutifully,” he added while urging the public to get vaccinated.
The minister said that Meghalaya will not face a shortage of the vaccines if the people cooperate and get their jabs on time.
