The state police and other arms of the government are working to ensure that their grassroots intelligence is effective at monitoring the threat of jihadi activities in Meghalaya.
This was informed by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma when asked about the statement of his Assam counterpart, who said that the neighbouring state was a hotbed of jihadi activity.
Last week, Assam police found links between 11 people and Bangladesh-based terror outfit Ansarul Bangla Team. The 11 have all been arrested. One is reported to have been running a madrassa.
Meghalaya shared a 400-plus kilometre border with Bangladesh and the state does have a problem with illegal immigration from its southern neighbour.
“Most inputs are given at the local level at the local thanas and we are keeping a watch,” Sangma said. “We will assess the situation and based on that will take the necessary steps.”
