Police in South Garo Hills yesterday arrested the last member at large from a kidnap gang linked to the outlawed Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA).
Acting on information provided by a source, police nabbed Rongsrang M Sangma (29) in Rapdikgre village in East Garo Hills.
Rongsrang hails from Gittingre, South Garo Hills, and joins five suspected co-conspirators, who were arrested earlier. They are thought to be involved in a series of kidnappings in the district.
SGH Superintendent of Police Shailendra Bamaniya informed today that Rongsrang is a member of the GNLA and the gang had been carrying out kidnappings and extortion at the behest of the banned rebel group.
The other five members of the gang who were arrested previously are Wilban M Sangma, Withmil S Marak, Sengsrang Ch Marak, Tengsrang Ch Marak and Aiber N Sangma.
