The Superintendent of Police of East Khasi Hills, Rituraj Ravi, has advised the public against sharing “fake and malicious” messages in relation to the Ichamati murder case of March 27.
Although Ravi did not specify what messages these were, a fake letter shared through WhatsApp ascribed to the Coordination and Welfare Committee threatening members of the Khasi Students Union may be one of them.
“Such unwarranted and malicious messages pose a serious threat to peace and law and order. In this regard, it is requested to not give unnecessary publicity to such malafide activities without verifying the veracity first,” Ravi said. “We further urge the people to not share or forward such fake and malicious messages without first verifying its correctness. We hereby request the full cooperation of all individuals in combating the spread of fake and malicious messages on social media.”
