Police in Meghalaya were involved in three separate drug busts in different parts of the state.
Today morning, acting on credible intelligence that a drug peddler was proceeding towards Shillong from Silchar, Lumshnong police set up a roadblock and, at 1:20pm, a Sumo taxi was halted and a suspect detained.
The individual, identified as Gabriel Elvin Thabah (33) of Lower Mawprem, was found with six soap boxes containing 67.36g of heroin. A police case has been registered against him.
Meanwhile, at around 1pm, an Assam-registered vehicle (AS 01 AY 6969) was coming from Silchar and making for Khliehriat when, after spotting police at Damcherra, Umkiang, on National Highway 6, the driver abandoned the vehicle near the checkpoint and fled with another occupant of the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle revealed that 118.18kg of cannabis was being transported in it.
In the other case, which took place last night, anti-narcotics police in Shillong conducted a raid in Polo opposite the NEEPCO office and arrested three persons on suspicion of supplying drugs.
Police seized 67.96g of heroin, a two-wheeler (ML 05 M 0237), pick-up truck (ML 05 N 6577), four mobile phones, three syringes and Rs 2.335 lakh in cash.
