An employee of a construction company was allegedly kidnapped by unknown miscreants yesterday in South Garo Hills.
According to reports, Akhilesh Singh Chauhan (50) who hails from Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh works with a private construction company and was deployed at a construction site at Rongdik bridge on NH-217 in Siju area of South Garo Hills.
Police said that some unidentified persons came to the tent where Chauhan stayed at the construction site at 1:40 am yesterday and enquired about the availability of diesel. When he went out to check the diesel box, he was allegedly kidnapped.
Police have launched a search operation in the forest area of Siju to trace Chauhan. A complaint was also lodged by the construction company with Siju police station in connection with the incident.
Reports said that Chauhan’s wife Sheela has appealed to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to take up with his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad Sangma for the safe release of her husband.
