NPP president Conrad Sangma will be sworn in as the new chief minister of Meghalaya on March 7 at 11 am.
Sangma today met Governor Phagu Chauhan and submitted the ‘letter of support’ from 32 MLAs for formation of the new government.
Sangma said that the letter of support has the signatures of all MLAs from NPP, BJP, HSPDP and independents.
“The Governor has invited me to form the government. It is likely that the swearing in will take place on March 7 at 11 am,” he said.
Sangma also admitted that he was in touch with other political parties to seek their support.
“We are still in touch with other parties also,” he said.
It may be mentioned that yesterday the BJP with two MLAs extended its support to the NPP.
The NPP emerged as the single-largest party in the State securing 26 seats out of the total 59, but it still fell short of a majority.
The NPP also has the support of BJP (2), HSPDP (2) and two independent MLAs which brings it to a total of 32 seats, enough to stake claim to form a new government.
