With his wife the odds-on favourite, National People’s Party (NPP) supremo and Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has continued to remain tight-lipped about who the party will field in the future by-election to fill the vacant Gambegre Assembly seat.
Asked if he could provide any update on the party’s decision, Sangma today said that a name has been forwarded by the NPP state committee but the national committee has yet to meet to study the recommendation.
It has been widely reported that Sangma’s wife, Mehtab Chandee, who is also the NPP national party treasurer, will get the ticket.
“The national committee has not sat down, so only when it does will the proposal sent by the state committee be finalised,” Sangma told reporters with a straight face.
However, when asked who the state committee had recommended, he replied with a hint of a smile, “I can’t tell you that. That’s confidential.”
