The opposition Congress has decided to constitute a committee to be headed by its party chief Vincent H Pala, to study the reservation policy and the roster system before taking a resolution and make it public.
Secretary of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) Charles Marngar said that the party has deliberated the issue and it felt that the reservation policy needs a review as done in many states of the country.
Marngar said during the all-party meeting called by the government on May 19, the Congress made its stand clear that implementation of the roster system should be prospective.
He also defended the party’s silence to speak on the issue and said, “We took the time and took no hasty decision on this issue because we did not want to commit any mistake as this will impact the future of our children.”
He said people should not be misled and understand that the Congress is supporting the government. “We have only acknowledged the move of the government to institute an expert committee to study and review the implementation of the roster,” he said.
