Congress MDCs Pynshngain Syiem and Charles Marngar are concerned that Meghalaya might end up giving away precious land to Assam as part of the border deal between the two states in which MDCs have only played a peripheral role.
“The state government has to be firm that it does not lose important areas to Assam in the ongoing boundary talks with Assam,” Syiem told reporters today, the first day of the budget session of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council.
Echoing similar views, Marngar said that MDCs had yet to see the complete details of the land deal but warned the government it would face stern opposition if the settlement goes too far against the interests of Meghalaya. Yesterday, details of the deal were presented to the Assembly by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma. Marngar said today that he opposed at least one of the decisions revealed by the CM, namely that the Assam State Transport Corporation transit camp in Khanapara-Pillingkata will go to Assam.
