A regional one day conclave on food safety, focusing on the organic and nutritional aspects of food products, was held here today.
The event brought together experts, policymakers and stakeholders to discuss advancements in food safety and organic regulations. Ampareen Lyngdoh, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, attended as the chief guest and emphasised the need for stringent food safety measures and increased awareness.
A key highlight of the conclave was the virtual launch of the ‘Organic Testing Unit’ at the State Food Testing Laboratory, which aims to strengthen food quality monitoring in the region.
Wadamika Lyngdoh, Commissioner of Food Safety, mentioned that Meghalaya’s farmers have a long history of practising organic farming. With the inauguration of the molecular unit, farmers will now be able to get their products certified, which will be a significant benefit for them.
