The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisations (COMSO) visited one of the infiltration check posts located at Ratacherra in East Jaiñtia Hills to assess whether adequate measures were being taken to verify the documents of all individuals passing through their gate, ensuring that they are indeed Indian citizens.
This operation was participated in by the Hynñiewtrep Youths Council (HYC), Jaiñtia Students Movement (JSM) and the Jaiñtia National Council (JNC).
During this operation, it was observed, COMSO said in a release, that the checks were being conducted properly and in accordance with the law, which is essential to prevent any outsiders from entering the state of Meghalaya and India as a whole. Some individuals were apprehended and returned due to a lack of documentation.
On June 21 COMSO convened a meeting in Shillong and passed a resolution to review all infiltration check posts across the state.
