Congress MLA, Ampareen Lyngdoh today said the government instituted committee to look into exorbitant billing in treatment of Covid-19 patients was not productive as the ground results remains the same.
Lyngdoh said high billing is still charged from Covid patients with little being done to alleviate the sufferings of such people. “The Covid-related bills are very high in the private hospital as there are no price caps for Covid-19 treatment,” she said.
Last month, the State government had set up a consultative committee comprising of representatives of the Health Department, government and private hospitals with Director of Health Services Dr Aman Warr as the chair of the body.
The committee was set up in the wake of complaints by families of poor patients who had to shell out significant amounts of money to treat the Covid-infected in private hospitals.
Stating that hospital bill reimbursement from the MHIS was not laid down clear to patients, Lyngdoh has urged the government to speed up compensation of Rs 50,000 to families of Covid-19 victims.
