Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has said that his government would verify reports of an anti-missionary school campaign in Assam.
Replying to a zero-hour notice raised by UDP legislator Mayralborn Syiem in the Assembly today, Sangma reiterated the state government’s commitment to the well-being of citizens amid reports of a radical Hindu group’s campaign against missionary schools.
UDP legislator from Nongpoh constituency Mayralborn Syiem brought to the notice of the house on the growing insecurities and fears of border residents in Marmain area in Ri-Bhoi following a poster campaign launched by Sanmilito Sanatan Samaj, an alleged radical group, across Assam targeting Christian missionary institutes.
The Chief Minister emphasised that there is a need to verify facts before responding and stated, “We see many reports that come out on newspaper, social media and so on and so forth and even yesterday we had a report about something that came out on YouTube and later on it turn out to be incorrect. First thing we need to do this is verify and before we respond or react in any way we need to first verify”.
He said his government is always in touch with its counterpart in the neighbouring state and that they have a very strong communication channels.
“We will ensure the SP of the particular district the DG and the entire police will be informed that necessary manpower and patrolling wherever required can be done to ensure that the people have the sense of confidence and feel that there are people and officials and police force are there with them to protect them if any situation were to happen,” he said.
