Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma attended the Education Conclave in Tura where he engaged with stakeholders and government officials on interventions to upscale the standard of education in the state.
This came a day after Meghalaya was ranked as the lowest performing state in school education for the academic year 2023-24 as per the report of the Performance Grading Index (PGI) 2.0 released by the Union Ministry of Education on Wednesday.
Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma, Vice-Chancellor of Captain Williamson Sangma State University Vasanthi Vijaykumar and other senior officials were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, the CM spoke about the state’s young population as both an opportunity and a challenge. He stressed the need to harness this demographic dividend by providing quality education and skills to the youth, thereby converting a potential challenge into an opportunity.
He also highlighted the government’s initiatives to transform the education sector, including renovating government schools and colleges, establishing the state university and investing in sports and music infrastructure.
During the conclave, an agreement was signed with Mothers’ Union Tura for management of 20 government lower primary schools. “Government is keen to work in collaboration with the community. A collaboration would mean to work in partnership with the government to improve learning outcomes”, Sangma said.
During the conclave, several initiatives were launched, including the Meghalaya School Quality Assessment and Accreditation Framework (MSQAAF) and the CM IMPACT Meghalaya Learning Enhancement Programme (M-LEP). Educational tablets were also distributed to students with special educational needs.
