Shillong, Nov 18: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma led the Official Flag Hoisting Ceremony at the P.A. Sangma Sports Complex in Tura, hoisting the high mast national flag amidst the National Anthem.
The event was attended by West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Vibhor Aggarwal, West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police Abraham T. Sangma, and other dignitaries.
In his address, Chief Minister Sangma expressed pride and patriotism, highlighting the national flag as a symbol of unity, history, sovereignty, freedom, and values. “Hoisting this high mast flag shows our respect and honour for our great nation India,” he said.
He announced plans to hoist similar flags in Jowai and all district headquarters, and outlined initiatives for Tura’s beautification, including the second phase of the Tura Beautification project with Rs 16 crore allocated for the Tura Bazar area.
The Chief Minister also highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects, including the additional secretariat, Convention Centre, and a 5-star hotel by the Hilton Group. He emphasised Tura’s readiness for the 2027 National Games, with works ongoing at the Pa Togan Nengminja Stadium and other venues.
Sangma urged citizens to cooperate and support government initiatives, especially beautification projects, and keep Tura town clean. The programme featured performances by local artists and concluded with the Chief Minister flagging off a road sweeping machine.
