Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, his deputy Prestone Tynsong and VPP MLA, Adelbert Nongrum today entered into a verbal fight during the concluding day of the autumn session in the assembly.
The situation reached to a point when Speaker, Thomas A Sangma had to stand up to intervene to stop. “When the chair is on its feet, the member has to sit down,” he asserted.
Nongrum wanted a discussion on the call attention notice, which Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh already placed the statement.
The VPP MLA protested, which was intervened by the Chief Minister who said, it was a mockery of the system since rules of call attention motion are clearly specified.
The Deputy Chief Minister also stood up and said that the MLA should read the rules “line by line and point by point” or the house is wasting time.
The Speaker ruled that only one call attention motion can be taken up in a single day, a convention that has been followed.
However, Nongrum contested that when he has not raised the matter, how can the minster place the statement. He argued that it was his privilege.
