The Dorbar ki Rangbah Kur, an assembly of clan leaders commemorated its fifth anniversary today.
Organised by the Synjuk Ki Rangbah Kur Ka Bri u Hynñiewtrep the programme was attended by Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) CEM Pyniaid Sing Syiem.
In his speech, Syiem deliberated at length on the enactment of customary laws and its implementation on various aspects of empowerment and recognition of the village and locality authorities, clan institutions, women and youth organisations in the jurisdiction of the KHADC.
On the recent amendment of the Clan lineage Act, Syiem informed the gathering that every clan need to register with the concerned authorities to provide certain power and to safeguard against the ulterior motive of several unscrupulous elements in society.
NEHU professor Streamlet Dkhar deliberated on the theme ‘Tehsong ia ki Kur Ka Bri U Hynñiewtrep’ (The Communal Bond of All the Clans in Hynñiewtrep Land) while Dr. Baljied Sing Syiem, Syiem of Hima Khyrim, Ainam Manik Syiem, Syiem of Hima Mylliem provided an insight into the various aspects of customary practices that has change with external influence particularly the impact of British colonial regime.
As part of the anniversary celebration, a souvenir edited by Raphael Warjri was released and the founding President, H S Shylla was posthumously honoured with a memento to his family.
The second session of the celebration was the symposium on the theme moderated by Erwin K Syiem Sutnga and a keynote address by Rapionglang Blah, including a brief address by R S Khardewsaw who also read the paper presented by Dr M P R Lyngdoh.
“This assembly promises to be a significant milestone in the journey of Ka Bri Hynñiewtrep and a moment for all clans to come together in solidarity for the preservation and progress of their shared heritage and community welfare,” the organisers said.
