A resident of Iawmusiang has appealed Arts and Culture minister, Sanbor Shullai to declare pictures of the three freedom fighters from Meghalaya official, so that construction of statues would be uniform.
Khroo L Pariat, who is also a leader of a civic society group, told the minister in a letter that he has come across pictures of Tirot Singh, Kiang Nangbah and Pa Togan Sangma to be different in many places of the state, which has created more confusion in the minds of the citizens especially the gen next and tourists.
Congratulating the department for its decision to erect life-size statues of the freedom fighters, Pariat said it is a historic decision but wished for an official government order on their pictures.
“If the Government can publish the office memorandum in this regard, I have no doubt the people and the young generation of the state will feel proud seeing the same picture of their hero in different place of our state, be it in a postage stamp, a picture in a frame, in a schools and universities textbook etc. and for that in whole of our nation,” he said.
It may be mentioned that the State government will install the life-size statues of the three great freedom fighters at the premises of the State Central Library to be executed by award-winning artist and chief creative director of Riti Arts Academy, Raphael Warjri.
