The West Garo Hills police on June 24 arrested four individuals in connection with the alleged murder of Pirot R Marak in Rengegre village, West Garo Hills.
According to police, the suspects, identified as Nennen Marak (the victim’s wife), Reknan K Sangma 41 (wife’s lover), Lepson Marak and Sengba Marak (wife’s brothers), are accused of involvement in Pirot’s death.
Pirot was found dead on April 15 but his hurried burial raised suspicions. An FIR by his family members was lodged on May 7, alleging marital discord and an illicit relationship as motives.
Investigations revealed that Pirot’s wife, Nennen, had eloped with Reknan on April 10, but returned four days later.
The next day, Pirot was found dead and his body was quickly buried. The family’s suspicions prompted an investigation, which was delayed due to the late filing of the complaint and the burial of the body.
The police exhumed the body on June 12 and received the post-mortem report on June 22, which revealed critical injury marks on the victim’s neck and private parts.
Police have appealed to the public to cooperate with them in the investigation and provide any information that may be relevant to the case.
Tikrikilla police registered a case under Sections 103(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
