The Education Department is waiting on the central government to release funds for student scholarships that are to be paid to around 67,000 beneficiaries.
This was informed by Education Minister Rakkam Sangma today.
Delays in scholarship disbursal have caused anxiety among students as fee deadlines approach.
The scholarships amount to a total of Rs 163 crore but only Rs 34 crore has been paid to students so far.
The central government “has asked us to submit UCs (utilisation certificates), which we have done,” Sangma said. “The delay was because the Union ministry wanted certain documents about the UCs and procurement. They had asked us to use the funds that were already sent, which was the first installment and this we had done.”
