With the latest entry of UDP and PDF into the NPP-led government, Chief Minister designate Conrad Sangma will have a hard time in sharing the cabinet berths and portfolios.
In Meghalaya, the cabinet is limited to only 12. However, with 45 MLAs on his side, Sangma will have to make everybody happy.
Already, the BJP has demanded that its two MLAs – Alexander L. Hek and Sanbor Shullai should be inducted into the cabinet “since both of them are experienced”.
Sangma will have to induct senior MLAs from NPP in his cabinet. The probable names from the party are Prestone Tynsong, Sniawbhalang Dhar, Ampareen Lyngdoh and Comingone Ymbon.
Further, the UDP with 11 MLAs will demand a bigger pound of flesh. Metbah Lyngdoh, Paul Lyngdoh, Lahkmen Rymbui and Kyrmen Shylla are some of the likely contenders for the cabinet induction.
Both MLAs of the PDF- Banteidor Lyngdoh and Gavin M. Mylliem have won twice and are in the race for ministerial positions.
The two MLAs of HSPDP – Methodius Dkhar and Shakliar Warjri may be rewarded for being the first to jump ship and extend support to the NPP-led government.
Kartush R. Marak and Remington Gabil Momin, the two independent MLAs who also gave their early support to the new government are waiting to get their share in the new ministry.
