The cabinet decided today to regularise the services of 2,447 lower primary, upper primary and non-government lower primary teachers.
These teachers were appointed by the administration and Deputy Inspector of Schools from 1994 to 2007.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma explained today that when the government took over LP schools in 1993, a large number of teachers became regular government employees, but 2,447 of them were left out of the regularisation process for varying reasons.
Although their salaries were according to the government scale, the lack of regularisation meant that they did not receive pensions or other benefits.
These benefits will now accrue to the teachers who will be regularised.
