The Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya Frontier is hosting the Inter-Command Women’s Wrestling, Boxing, Judo, Arm Wrestling, Weightlifting and Powerlifting Competition 2024, which began here today.
The two-day event will conclude tomorrow at the BSF Meghalaya Frontier headquarters in Umpling.
The competition involves the participation of 70 women athletes from Eastern Command and 50 from the Western Command of the BSF, all eager to showcase their talents, skills and sportsmanship in the pursuit of the coveted trophy.
The opening ceremony was inaugurated by BSF Meghalaya Inspector General Harbax Singh Dhillon, who was the chief guest, in the presence of other senior officials from the BSF.
The opening ceremony featured an oath-taking session and march past by the participating teams. The ceremony also included a performance by the BSF band and a cultural presentation by the troops and students of the BSF School.
In his address, Dhillon extended his compliments to the participating teams, encouraging them to demonstrate their skill, stamina and endurance while upholding the true spirit of sportsmanship. He emphasised the importance of sports in the lives of BSF personnel, highlighting how it promotes a healthy lifestyle and fosters a sense of unity. He also commended the BSF for its dedication to various sporting disciplines, which are integral to the organisation’s daily operations.
