The Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya foiled an attempt to smuggle eyeglasses worth Rs 10 lakh before it could be smuggled into Bangladesh yesterday.
The operation was conducted by personnel of 193 Battalion along the international border in East Khasi Hills.
The consignment was seized by the vigilant troops when the miscreants were trying to smuggle it into Bangladesh. On being challenged by the BSF, the smugglers fled from the spot by taking advantage of the terrain and darkness. The seized items were handed over to Customs officials in Dangar for further action.
