The Border Security Force (BSF), Meghalaya frontier seized contraband items worth Rs 10.60 lakh meant for smuggling to Bangladesh.
The seizure was made yesterday during a special operation conducted along the Indo-Bangladesh border in West Jaintia Hills and East Khasi Hills districts.
“During the operations, the troops observed unidentified individuals attempting to approach the border with head loads. On being challenged, the smugglers fled into the nearby forest under the cover of darkness to avoid apprehension,” the BSF.
During a search of the area, the concealed items (not listed by the BSF) were recovered and handed over to the customs office.
