The Border Security Force (BSF), Meghalaya thwarted illegal smuggling attempts along the India- Bangladesh border and seized cattle and other contraband items worth more than Rs 16 lakh.
The BSF in a statement said troops of 193 Battalion seized a huge quantity of eatable and contraband items along the Indo- Bangladesh border of East Khasi Hills district yesterday.
The confiscated items were handed over to the concern customs office for further necessary legal action.
In another operation, BSF troops of 4th Battalion BSF rescued 12 buffaloes from the border area of BOP Hawaitila, while being smuggled to Bangladesh.
Apart from the above operations, BSF troops of 200 Bn BSF seized a large quantity of clothing items while being smuggled to Bangladesh, the statement said.
