In separate operations conducted yesterday, troops of the Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya successfully thwarted illegal smuggling attempts along the India-Bangladesh border by seizing cattle, sugar and cosmetics worth more than Rs 15 lakh before they could be smuggled over the border into Bangladesh.
Acting on specific information, the 4th Battalion of the BSF Meghalaya seized a huge quantity of cosmetics along the international border in East Khasi Hills. The confiscated items were handed over to the concerned Customs office for further necessary legal action.
In another operation, troops of the 193rd Battalion rescued eight cattle from the area under Dulainala border outpost before they could be smuggled into Bangladesh.
In South Garo Hills, personnel of the 200th Battalion in partnership with Meghalaya police seized a large cache of sugar that had been stockpiled at an abandoned house near the border. The seized sugar was handed over to Rongra police station for further action.
