Exhibiting a high degree of alertness on the international border, troops of the Border Security Force (BSF) seized cloth items worth Rs 11 lakh along the Indo-Bangladesh border in East Khasi Hills that were meant to be transported to the neighbouring country.
In another incident, BSF personnel, in a joint operation with Meghalaya police, apprehended a Bangladesh national in South Garo Hills who illegally entered India with an intention of carrying smuggling consignment from India to Bangladesh.
The apprehended person revealed his identity as Md Asherul Hoque (20), a resident of village Bhawanipur in Bangladesh. Blankets, cosmetics items, liquor and other miscellaneous items were recovered from his possession.
Continuing its efforts to keep the international border smuggling free, BSF troops have seized clothing and cosmetics items worth Rs 99 lakh in December.
