Former Chief Executive Member (CEM) and sitting MDC of Nongthymmai, Latiplang Kharkongor, was laid to rest here today at the Nongthymmai Presbyterian cemetery.
The current CEM, Pyniaid Sing Syiem, was among the dignitaries who attended the funeral service today.
Kharkongor passed away on Friday evening at Shillong Civil Hospital after a prolonged illness.
Kharkongor was elected to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) four consecutive times since 2004.
He was also CEM of the KHADC from November 22, 2019 until March 20, 2020.
Kharkongor became the first Independent to be elected as the CEM of KHADC after the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) executive committee led by Teinwell Dkhar of UDP was defeated in a no-confidence motion.
Kharkongor was married to Melvina Wanniang and together they had five children.
