The new building inaugurated to house the office of Lumshnong C&RD block is a skill development centre constructed from the District Mineral Funding Trust.
This was stated by the Khasi Students Union (KSU), Narpuh circle who felt that the State government should speed up construction of a separate block office so people could make use of the centre for skill training programmes.
The State government had created several C&RD blocks, sub-divisions and administrative units with an aim to bring administration closer to the public. The Lumshnong C&RD block in East Jaiñtia Hills district is one such block that was inaugurated on December 3.
“We welcome the step taken by state government for creation of the block at Narpuh area but the building that houses the block office is a skill development centre funded by the ka District Mineral Funding Trust, which is meant to promote skills among the youth of the district,” KSU circle general secretary Sanatomba Bamon said.
He said the chief minister during the inaugural function never announced funds for construction of the Lumshnong C&RD block office even as Rs 3 crore was announced for construction of a block office at Wapung on December 16, 2021.
“We don’t need cosmetic inauguration of the block. Till date, we have not seen construction signs of the Wapung block office,” Bamon said, adding, “The state government should not take advantage of the skill development centre but work on construction of a separate block office.”
