Residents of Elaka Labang Nongphyllut Pangam Raliang in Block-1 have expressed concern over the reported emergence of a new Karbi underground outfit known as United People’s Front of Karbi Longri (UPFKL).
The residents cited the news reports on July 29-30 regarding the arrest of two UPFKL leaders by police from Manja police station in Karbi Anglong. The news reports also stated that several extortion notices were also seized from the arrested militants.
They also said that the arrested militants identified as Sanjay Engti and Rajesh Phangcho hail from Jrikyndeng which falls under Block-1.
According to the villagers, there is a likelihood that the militant outfit is planning to extort money from Pnar villagers residing in Block-1 and also to harass them in various ways.
The villagers said they were prepared to resist any attempt by the Karbi militant group to harass or extort money from them. They also appeal to all Karbi people to stand up against any move to disturb peace and tranquility in the area.
Further, the villagers urged the governments of Assam and Meghalaya to eradicate the militant outfit from the area in order to maintain peace, law and order.
