State BJP president Ernest Mawrie today said that the party will contest the upcoming assembly elections alone.
“We are a national party and we will not have any pre-poll alliance but fight alone,” he told reporters.
According to Mawrie, it is a wish of the leaders that the BJP in Meghalaya should put up good leaders with potential and winnability qualities. “The central leaders also want that BJP to form the government in 2023,” he added.
Asked if TMC legislator, Mohendro Rapsang would join the BJP, Mawrie said that the statement made by his party colleague and former cabinet minister AL Hek was personal and that the party has not received any communication from the central leaders.
“It is his personal statement, we don’t have any communication whether Rapsang is willing to join us or not,” he added.
According to Hek, Rapsang and Mawsynram TMC MLA, Himalaya Shangpliang had shown interest to contest from the BJP.
However, Mawrie said that it was not necessary for sitting MLAs, who join the party and be given a ticket to contest. “In the past in different states many sitting MLAs were denied ticket. In the party we have procedures and it has to be followed,” he said.
Meanwhile, the State BJP president said that the party has formed the election manifesto committee and the Inner Line Permit will feature in its policies.
