Former BJP president, Ernest Mawrie has asserted that party workers want the ticket for Lok Sabha election from Shillong and Tura seats to be given to those who are from the party as they know its ideology.
It may be mentioned that there are at least four aspirants for BJP ticket from Shillong seat. They include cabinet minister Alexander L. Hek, Fenella Nonglait, Mawrie and a youth leader.
Speaking to media persons here today, Mawrie said that he applied for party ticket after party workers from the entire Shillong parliamentary constituency requested him to contest.
“Party workers feel I should contest the polls as they are portraying me as the face of the party,” he said.
It may be mentioned that apart from Shillong, there are even multiple candidates who have sought the party ticket to contest the poll from Tura parliamentary constituency.
Replying to a query, Mawrie also said that selection of a candidate is very important for the party to win the polls “as whichever candidate gets the ticket should have the support of grassroots party workers to win the polls”.
“How party will win the election depends on whom the party gives its tickets to,” he said.
Earlier, Mawrie also said that the voting share of the BJP has gone up in Meghalaya including in the recent Assembly election and last Lok Sabha poll.
