BJP national secretary Arun Singh has touted the success stories brought about in Meghalaya while the country has been under the rule of the saffron party and promised that more is to come.
Since 2014, when the Hindu nationalist outfit took over the reins at the Centre, Meghalaya has seen development in the Inter-State Bus Terminus, National Institute of Technology, Cancer Hospital, Mega Food Park, Shillong-Tura Road, upgrade of Umroi Airport, the PA Sangma Stadium in Tura and more, he reminded the public today.
“The state has developed in the last seven years to the level it could not in 70 years,” Singh claimed. For most of that time the Congress Party ran the country and yet it ignored Meghalaya, he added, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not.
“The Prime Minister has said that he is always ready to ensure the progress of the North East. There will not be any financial problem for the purpose,” Singh said.
Meanwhile, when asked about the BJP’s stand on the implementation of the Inner Line Permit, Singh spun his answer to talk about progress.
“People want house, people want employment, people want safe drinking water…they want health coverage. So that is the priority of the people,” he stated. “Everyone should be happy and their basic standard of living should be improved and that is our main aim for which we are working.”
The BJP karyakarta also claimed that Meghalayans also want good roads, rail and air connectivity. Railways, at least, are controversial, at least in Khasi Hills, because of pressure groups harping on about influx.
Meanwhile, Singh said that party workers in the state will work tirelessly to ensure that the public benefit from central government schemes for housing, clean water, etc. As part of Covid-19 alleviation measures, the Centre promised free rice ration until Diwali.
“We have planned that our party workers will reach out to every village and every ration shop and they will ensure the food grain announced by Modi reaches the people,” Singh said.
