Tura MDC Bernard N Marak received his second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine over the weekend and wants this to encourage the general population to get vaccinated.
In a statement today, Marak also said that mass awareness campaigns should be launched using sports, songs and dance, for example, as the means to carry the message.
West Garo Hills, of which Tura is a part, has seen 6,502 cases of Covid-19 since the pandemic began last year, 1,361 of which have come this month alone.
While observing the situation, Marak said that it is important “to remain vigilant, strong, focused, informed, fit and active in order to overcome the dreadful virus ravaging our societies and families. The virus is constantly evolving and adapting to the environment.”
However, he categorically came out opposed to “forced vaccination”.
