Poor construction of retaining walls on the Tura-Paikan Road on National Highway 217 is threatening not just the road but nearby homes too, a concerned citizen has said.
Jaasan R Marak, a resident of Duragre, said today that the company responsible for the construction “has been criticised for not constructing proper retaining walls, leading to significant landslides, especially during this rainy season.”
This “negligence” threatens the safety of the local community. Marak included photographs of landslides and said that just a few minutes’ walk from the Tura Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) landslides have already begun to erode land “precariously close” to residences.
“One house, in particular, situated directly above the compromised section of the road, is in imminent danger. Should these issues remain unaddressed, there is a severe risk of the house collapsing, potentially resulting in loss of life,” he added.
Marak called on the company responsible and the authorities to construct proper retaining walls, conduct a thorough review of the construction process, hold the company accountable and provide adequate compensation to landowners.
