Jowai, Nov 5: The Jaintia Autonomous District Council (JHADC) has expressed shock after it discovered that plantations in Saitsama and Thadmynri have been encroached by Assam.
JHADC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Thombor Shiwat found out that an illegal transaction was made by Saitsama village with an Assam contractor.
Shiwat told reporters today that the district council had received information about illegal felling of trees and extraction of quartz and conducted an inspection yesterday.
He stated that when questioned by the district council officials, the Secretary of Saitsama dorbar revealed that this was done due the failure of Meghalaya to develop the border areas.
Similarly, in Thadmynri the district council officials found heaps of extracted quartz and fallen trees, he added.
The CEM said both the dorbars have been summoned on November 10.
Shiwat said extracted quartz and sal trees have been seized and kept at Mookyndur and vowed decisive action against those involved in illegal sale of its plantations to Assam.
