East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police (SP), Vivek Syiem has urged job aspirants not to fall prey to people who lure them by asking to pay money for job offers.
“People should not believe in such offers. We urge them to apply (for jobs) the proper way,” he said.
It may be mentioned that on May 18, two persons, Valmiki Amar and Sujan Sharma, were arrested by police from Madanrting police station for taking money from those they promised jobs in Happy Valley here.
“Both are in judicial custody. But one of them is ill and has been referred to hospital,” Syiem said.
He also said that some of the victims had come forward to complain against the duo and some documents were also seized from their possession and investigation is on.
Amar and Sharma were reportedly taking Rs 5,000 from each candidate to help them get jobs at the Assam Regimental Centre (ARC) since February.
The SP said one of them worked as “safaiwala” in ARC and another was staying in a rented house in Madanrting.
There are reportedly more than 500 victims who joined a WhatsApp group created by the two suspects.
