The Achik State Peoples’ Front (ASPF) leading the winter capital awareness campaign in the Garo region has requested an audience with Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to discuss the issue.
The organisation is actively leading the movement to designate Tura as the Winter Capital and has conducted a series of awareness campaign meetings throughout the region to urge the government to fulfill the long-standing cherished dream.
“The public response has been overwhelmingly supportive, providing valuable feedback and cooperation at each meeting,” the ASPF stated.
The organisation now wants a meeting with the Chief Minister and the Winter Capital Committee and all relevant stakeholders, including civil society organisations.
Meanwhile, altogether nine awareness campaigns have been conducted by the ASPF with the latest held today at Balachanda village in West Garo Hills.
The Nokmas of Balachanda, Chandalkona and Rajabala, Achik Progressive Approach, Rajabala unit and individuals also took part in the campaign.
The next meeting is scheduled at the Raksamgre Public Playground in Raksamgre Sub-Division, West Garo Hills on May 10, the organisation informed.
