The Shillong Arm Fight 2023, All India Arm Wrestling Championship, concluded here this evening with the two-day national championship seeing participation from different parts of the country.
The event was organised by People’s Federation of Arm Wrestling India in collaboration with Bouncers Association of Meghalaya and Treilang Welfare Society.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma attended the event today and witnessed the final matches in both the men’s and women’s categories.
Speaking on the occasion, the CM spoke at length on his government’s commitment to promote sports in the state.
Dipankar Mech from Assam was declared the champion of champions in the men’s category, while Yogesh Choudhury from Haryana won the corresponding women’s award.
Other categories also included matches between disabled contestants where, in the sitting category, Hubert L Nonglait, Graham Jones Kharbani and Name Nangsan Kupar K Warjri came in first, second and third places respectively. In the standing category, Johnborlang Pyngrope, Nihi Lamare and Marelad Kanai came first, second and third.
Winners among men were Daniel Nongkhlaw (55kg), Nilay Sankar (65kg), Deepankar Mech (75kg), Tridip Medhi (85kg) and Bakham Maian Khongwir (85kg-plus).
Winners among women were Angelis Kharumnuid (50kg), Bandarika Kharkongor (55kg), Wandalin Syiemiong (60kg), Margareth Pathaw (65kg) and Yogesh Chaudhury (65kg-plus).
