Alyzza M Lyngdoh and Banpynshngain Syngwan won the Best Senior Swimmer titles at the State Swimming Championship 2024, which concluded here yesterday.
Alyzza won 3 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze in the women’s category, while Banpynshngain claimed 4 gold and 1 bronze in the men’s at the two-day championship.
Swimmers were allowed to enter a maximum of five events and Ilarisuk Youroi swept every one that she entered to take 5 gold medals and the title of Best Junior 15-17 years Swimmer (female).
The corresponding boys’ winner was Cleric Jayden Wanniang, who took home 4 gold and 1 bronze.
The Best Junior 12-14 years Swimmers were Meiaipynsan L Tron (boys, 3G & 2S) and Tvisha (girls, 3G & 1B). The Best Sub-Junior 10-12 years Swimmers were Keanan Momin (boys, 4G, 1S) and Anisha Phanbuh (girls, 2G).
There were 143 swimmers in all who participated this year, 98 male and 45 female. Shillong saw the highest participation with 86 swimmers, followed by Shella (23), Mawkyrwat (23), Garo Hills (8), East Jaintia Hills (1) and two who were unclassified.
