Voice of the People Party (VPP) president and Nongkrem legislator Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit has said that if the state government listens to the woes of the farmers, villagers living in the borders, there will be no agitations in Meghalaya.
Basaiawmoit criticised that the MDA-led government has been attentive to the residents of Them Ïewmawlong by extending its deadline to shift the residents from the Sweeper Colony.
“It is here we understand the mindset of this government. They are just fooling the public and therefore we leave it to the wisdom of the people,” he said.
The VPP president said that as representatives of the people they have been taking up the same issues and the public feels that matters just for the sake of it.
“It is sad to see the government is just extending its deadline (to shift the residents). We now leave it to the government since it is their duty,” he said.
It may be mentioned, the state government had recently requested the Centre to consider allocating at least three acres of unutilised defence land, which is located just opposite a petrol pump at Ïewmawlong to relocate the 342 families.
