The A’chik Organization for Social Welfare (AOSW) has urged all MLAs of Garo Hills to raise their voice to defend the rights of Garos through the roster system.
In this, the AOSW said that only the Chief Minister has spoken about the issue and the other legislators from Garo Hills have to be more vocal in supporting him.
The AOSW took umbrage at demands from certain sections in Khasi-Jaintia Hills to review the state’s job reservation policy, like the quota of 40 percent reservation for both major communities, as it feels that there is nothing defective in the policy. The only problem, according to the AOSW is that, in the absence of a roster system up until now, Garos have never filled their quota.
The organisation took specific aim at the Voice of the People Party and its leader Ardent M Basaiawmoit for protesting against the roster system and current status of the reservation policy.
